THIS CATALOGUE Purpose of the present catalogue is to
help you find your way through the amazing and ever changing
maze of available music editions. Included are all
currently available editions of music by composer born
before 1790 (a very few exceptions were made for
composers who were born slightly later but who died young;
e.g. Schubert). You will find also the editions that went
out of print very recently, those that will be
reprinted shortly, and those which have been announced by
the publishers but are not yet available.
TITLES Original titles are quoted in the
original language and spelling. Modern non-English titles
have been translated for convenience sake into English.
CONTENTS It has been attempted to give a full
description of all items in the editions, the keys they are
in, their opus numbers and particular instrumentations.
SOURCES Apart from the names of the editor(s),
all known sources of an edition have been stated. This
information comes from the critical reports of those
editions or from catalogues and studies which will be
itemized under the button "SOURCES" (still under
construction); here you may find as well a list of the RISM-abbreviations
of the libraries used in this catalogue, plus their
solutions.
REFERENCES The references in the alphabetical list
of composers to titles in the sections "Original
Collections" and "Modern Anthologies" will help you to find
works that are not available in separate editions.
MISTAKES & OMISSIONS Though this ever growing catalogue is
underway for several years now, almost every day brings
facts to the surface which were wrongly interpreted or
overlooked. The editor is grateful for every remark that
will improve this file.
